This loop fills a full day without feeling rushed.

1. Kosmas Village

About 40 minutes from the hotel

Kosmas is the classic Parnon mountain village and the best first stop. It sits around a big central square covered by huge plane trees.

What to do

  • Drink coffee in the square

  • Try traditional sweets (spoon sweets, walnut, rose, or quince)

  • Taste the mountain spring water

  • Wander through the small stone alleys

Why guests love it
It feels untouched, calm, and much cooler than the coast.

2. Kastanitsa Village

Kastanitsa is one of the oldest Tsakonian villages, built entirely from white stone and surrounded by chestnut forests. It feels untouched and incredibly peaceful.

What to do

  • Explore the stone houses and narrow paths

  • Visit the tiny folklore museum (if open)

  • Buy local chestnut products

  • Take short walks around the forest edge

Why guests love it
It’s authentic, quiet, and one of the prettiest mountain villages in the region.

3. Mountain Viewpoints

Between Kastanitsa and the ridge road you’ll find several natural viewpoints overlooking valleys, forests, and distant sea.

Stop ideas

  • Small roadside clearings

  • Forest tracks for a 10–15 minute walk

  • Photo stops with wide open views

This stretch is perfect for guests who want slow, scenic driving.

4. Lunch Options

The best places for lunch are in Kosmas or in one of the small tavernas on the mountain road.

Typical dishes

  • Slow-cooked goat, the specialty of Kosmas

  • Mountain greens and salads

  • Baked feta

  • Rustic soups in colder months

  • Local pasta dishes

Most tavernas have outdoor seating under plane trees.

5. Return to Sampatiki

Drive back through the same route. The descent to the sea is beautiful, especially in the afternoon light.

Guests usually return around 16:00–17:00, in time to enjoy the pool, sunset, or the spa.

Tips for Guests

  • Roads are winding, so take your time.

  • A light jacket is useful even in summer.

  • Comfortable shoes help if you want to walk around the villages.

  • The mountain spring water in Kosmas is safe and delicious.

  • If traveling with kids, the route is short and easy, with many safe stopping points.
