Peloponnese itinerary
Seven days along the quieter east coast: a Venetian town, two ancient sites, red cliffs, a mountain monastery and a walled town on a rock.
The short answer
This route follows the east coast south from Nafplio to Monemvasia. It skips the long drives and spends its nights in three places.
You need a car. Most stretches are short, and you can swim on almost every day.
It suits a first visit if you want the famous sites and quiet beaches in the same week.

The plan
Day 1
Athens to Nafplio
Stop at the Corinth Canal on the way. Evening in Nafplio.
Day 2
Nafplio, Mycenae and Epidaurus
Ancient sites in the morning, the old town and harbour in the evening.
Day 3
A coastal drive of about two hours. Swim at Plaka and see the red cliff at sunset.
Day 7
Return
Monemvasia to Athens takes about four hours by road.

If you have an extra day, spend it on the east coast, not on the road.

Where to stay
Nafplio is easy to walk and has many rooms. On the east coast, Leonidio and Sampatiki are quieter and give you beaches and the mountains. A night inside the walls at Monemvasia is an experience in itself, though rooms are few.

How long is the drive from Nafplio to Leonidio?
About an hour and three quarters, on a coastal road with mountain sections. Allow more time in summer.
Can you do this trip without a car?
It is difficult. Buses connect the main towns, but timetables are limited and beaches are hard to reach.
When should I go?
Spring and autumn give warm days and fewer visitors. July and August are hot and busy.
