Peloponnese travel guide

Best places to visit in the Peloponnese: 15 towns, coasts and villages

Ancient sites, walled towns, wild coast and mountain villages. Here are the places we would send a friend, grouped by region so you can plan a route.

The short answer

Choose a region, then go slowly.

The Peloponnese is a large peninsula and it rewards patience. The famous sites are close together, but the best trips mix one or two of them with a quiet coast or a mountain village.

We have grouped the fifteen places below by region. Pick two or three regions for a week, and stay put for a few nights in each, rather than driving every day.

We live on the east coast, so we know that part best. We say so where it matters.

Putting it together

Combine places that sit close.

For five days, take Nafplio, Mycenae, Epidaurus and one stretch of coast. For a week, add Monemvasia and a few nights on the east coast. For ten days, add Mystras and the Mani.

Roads wind, and distances look shorter on the map than they feel. Allow more time than you think.
